Parking and Student Safety
The safety of every child is the most important concern of the Sandburg staff. Returning parents to Sandburg are well aware of the parking issues, especially in the morning. Many of our parents are accustomed to parking their cars and then walking their student/s to class and waiting with them on campus until the start of school. This eliminates many parking spaces for the parents who must drop their student/s off on their way to work and creates major safety hazards at our crosswalk in the front of school and at the back gate. It also provides opportunities for those who might put our students in harm's way.
Traffic Issues
To report a recurring traffic problem in front of the school please call San Diego Police Department Traffic Division at 619-605-4700 and provide as much information as possible, including specific date and time and vehicle make/model/color/license.
Parking in the Handicap Area
Do not park in front of the new handicap access area. Please help us keep this area clear. To report abusers, call the San Diego Police at 619-531-2000 (non-emergency number) and provide as many details as you can, such as license plate number, vehicle make/model and color, date and time. Thank you for your continued help.
Except for school teachers and staff, there is no on-campus parking at Sandburg Elementary. Please park on the streets surrounding the campus and walk to meet your children.
WANTED: Safety Patrol Volunteers
Moms, dads, grandparents, aunts or uncles may join Sandburg's Student Safety Patrol before and after school. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday. Hours are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
7:25-7:45 a.m. and
1:55-2:15 p.m.
Wednesday
7:25-7:45 a.m. and
11:55-12:15 p.m.
All volunteers will go through training with our principal. If you are interested in working with our Student Safety Patrol, please call the office at 619-605-4700.
Emergency Preparedness
Our school has a Crisis Response Box that includes a comprehensive school safety plan. Required by the state, the plan includes policies and procedures for responding to:
- Disasters such as fire, earthquake, or situations requiring a lock down.
- Serious disciplinary problems.
- Child abuse.
- Sexual harassment.
Practice drills are periodically held to ensure that students will be safe in the event of a disaster.
Adult supervision is provided in classrooms and in outside areas before and after school, during recess and lunch, and during passing time between classes. Under the direction of the principal or site administrator, specific school building security procedures are implemented by staff. In addition, district offices support schools by reviewing and disseminating safety requirements and information, coordinating safety-related services, and providing training and assistance.
All visitors must report to the main office and secure a pass, which is to be worn while on campus. To pick up a child from school, an individual must be an adult listed on the student's enrollment card and able to prove his/her identity with a picture ID.
