Single Plan

Single Plan for Student Achievement

Introduction

Sandburg Elementary serves a diverse group of approximately 560 students in the Mira Mesa community of San Diego, California. We are committed to providing quality education to every student. Upon review of multiple measures, including site assessments, the California Dashboard, staff and community surveys, and the CAASPP, we have identified our Students with Disabilities and Hispanic as groups to focus on targeted support in English and Math.  In addition, our attendance data shows that our English Learners, 2 or more races, and homeless/foster youth students are struggling more than other student groups when it comes to chronic absenteeism. We also have a schoolwide struggle with chronic absenteeism.

Upon reviewing areas of need, we have discussed the need for more mental health support, up-to-date and challenging curriculum, and instructional materials that provide for differentiation and meet the demands of 21st-century learners.  We have developed goals and corresponding strategies in the areas below within our SPSA to address these inequities:

  • Support for Students with Disabilities and struggling learners (UFLI and strengthening Tier 1, 2 and 3 instruction in PLCs, reading with Sherry Downen)
  • Attendance - Comprehensive Assessment plan and team to address chronically absent student needs, attendance recognition, and incentive program
  • Social Emotional support to meet the increased need in our community - increased counselor time and Leader in Me
  • Adequate and current curriculum and instructional materials - Engage NY Math, Tara West Phonics, Software Licenses
  • Identified support for newcomers - EL Assistant, increased small group instruction
  • Increasing the opportunity for teachers to meet in grade-level teams as well as vertical articulation a minimum of 6 times a year (VAPA AEP PLC)
